A new measurement technology has been developed that enables multivariate parameter measurements of an oil well production stream. Parameterisation is based on electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation and differs signiﬁcantly from
other techniques found in the industry today. The instrument uses a patented wide-bandwidth radio-frequency to establish permittivity and conductivity of the ﬂuid. For instance, as in a water-cut application, water typically has a permittivity of 80 and oil 2.5, the instrument will continuously monitor water fraction from 0 to 100 percent and vise versa. The instrument requires no mechanical mixer to provide a homogenous ﬂow and is not sensitive to orientation. The technology is very low-power, which makes it attractive to monitor in permanent downhole applications.
